Where the 300 is focuses mainly on precise tuning and heat management to deliver improved and repeatable gains in performance, the 200-series respond’s to improved efficiency by means of higher flowing exhaust systems, fuel injectors, turbochargers and refined tuning parameters. Powered by a 4.5-litre diesel V8 (1VD-FTV), the engine features two turbochargers and an engine bay mounted air-to-air intercooler. We combat the under-bonnet intercooler placement and subsequent heat challenges with a perfectly integrated dual fan and shroud system to deliver much more consistent towing power. 

Improved Efficiency

Over the years of tuning this platform, HPF has identified exactly where and when the 4.5-litre twin-turbo V8 benefits from hardware upgrades. Our staged package program removes the guesswork entirely, delivering carefully developed, proven packages that build on one another.  We’ve also designed the progression so that when you’re ready for more power, you can upgrade confidently, knowing you haven’t wasted any money on your previous steps.

Heat Management

Unlike the 300-series water-to-air intercooler, the 200-series uses a traditional air-to-air cooler mounted under the bonnet. While this location aids packaging, it’s far from optimal for performance. At low speeds and high loads, minimal airflow across the core causes rapid heat soak, forcing the ECU to derate power. Even a larger intercooler offers limited benefit without adequate airflow. HPF provides the only true solution with a Gturbo supplied Intercooler fan and shroud kit. Complete with a plug-and-play control module that monitors intercooler temperatures and activates automatically as needed, the kit actively forces air across the core regardless of vehicle speed. This ensures consistent cooling under all conditions and has proven to return intercooler temps to ambient more than twice as fast as competing fan kits.

ECU Calibration

The twin turbo 1VD-FTV is an untapped powerhouse in standard form, and with just moderate tuning, engine power & torque can easily and reliably be increased by around 20%. Where things really start to get interesting for the power hungry, is with the addition of high flowing fuel injectors, exhaust and turbochargers. Our calibrators are then able to liberate over 50% more power and torque above standard and from direct feedback from our customers, economy is improved!! 

We achieve this without any intrusive wiring, cutting, or hardware modifications. Drawing on decades of hands-on experience with Toyota’s latest platforms, we calibrate to proven safe limits for fuel, boost pressure, and engine parameters. Power is simply the result — never the starting point. 

No two vehicles are the same. Every HPF tune is custom calibrated on the dyno to suit your specific Landcruiser, its supporting modifications and your intended use.

Transmission Calibration

HPF can also recalibrate the 200-Series 6-speed automatic transmission. We make 6th gear more usable and optimise the torque converter lock-up strategy, lowering engine rpm by 500 rpm at both 80-kph in 5^th gear and 100-kph in 6^th gear. The refinements also include a revised shift strategy that makes better use of the engine’s torque.
