PATROL Y62 STAGE 3 | 400kW

The HPF Y62 Patrol Stage-3 upgrade starts with our trained technician fitting a Harrop FDFI-2300 intercooled supercharger kit to vastly improve the efficiency of the engine. We support the extra air pumped in by the supercharger with a BMC high flow, serviceable air filter element and Harrop’s HPDI Fuel Pump Module High Flow Assembly for the VK56VD. We then custom tune your vehicle's PCM (Powertrain Control Module) on the dyno utilizing the latest ECU tuning software to maximize power and torque and to optimize fuel efficiency. We complete the upgrade process by testing your vehicle on the road to make final adjustments, optimizing your vehicle's performance and driveability. This is all completed in 3-4 days and at the end of this upgrade you will be provided with a dyno graph detailing the power & torque increase of your vehicle.

  • Air filter element – From our testing there is no gain in performance by replacing the standard Nissan air box as it does not pose a restriction even in supercharged applications. Additionally, an aftermarket air box may also mess with the laminar flow of the air through the air flow meter which can cause tuning / driveability issues. We use a high flow serviceable air filter like a BMC or K&N filter to minimise filter restriction and it has the ability to be cleaned and reused almost indefinitely.
  • Supercharger – HPF works very closely with Harrop engineering and we are one of only 3 Premium Dealers in Victoria. The FDFI-2300 intercooled supercharger utilizes an Eaton 4-lobe rotor design with 160-degree twist and is a positive displacement type compressor made to exacting OEM tolerances. The rotor group is used by manufactures like Chevrolet’s LS9 powered Corvette and the HSV GTS-R W1. Air temperature is offset by the integral water to air intercooler system. The ‘2300’ in the name of the supercharger refers to the amount of air displaced in one revolution of the supercharger, i.e. for every one revolution of the supercharger, 2300cc’s of air is displaced. Harrop products are designed and built in Preston, Victoria.
  • HPDI Fuel Pump Module – More air needs more fuel and for the supercharger equipped Y62 Patrol upgrade packages, we chose the direct fit high volume DI (Direct Injection) fuel pump module from Harrop Engineering. The factory DI fuel pump will support around 375kw of flywheel power but fuel pressure drops off after that so to avoid the probability of leaning out the engine the ECU will limit engine power. The Harrop high volume DI system utilizes a redesigned pump assembly and simply replaces the existing OEM fuel module. The fitment of this module does not affect day-to-day fuel usage as the fuel is controlled by the PCM.
  • Dyno Tuning (Y62) – By optimizing the engine tune parameters in the vehicles PCM (Powertrain Control Module) to suit 98 octane fuel, we are able to increase both power and torque and maximise fuel economy however it’s worth noting that late model naturally aspirated cars are generally tuned very well from the manufacturer so depending on the vehicle platform mechanical parts to improve the engines intake & exhaust flow may need to be added to really get good gains. In its simplest form, to make more power by tuning any petrol engine we need to add ignition timing and optimise the air / fuel ratio (AFR). The PCM in the current Patrol is super smart and is constantly trying to add ignition timing to maximise engine efficiency. The PCM relies on knock sensors to determine how much timing it can add, it can also determine the quality of fuel and will adjust ignition timing automatically and seamlessly so running a chip device as an alternative to proper PCM tuning with so called selectable 98, 95, or 91 octane tunes is redundant as the factory PCM can already alter its tuning parameters for differing fuel octanes. It’s been widely rumoured that the air / fuel ratio at wide open throttle (WOT) in the Y62 Patrol is rich but its relevance has been larger overstated as this only happens above 130kph in attempt to protect the catalytic converters during sustained high-power requirements, we do not alter this unless aftermarket headers and cats are installed.

Notes

  • Power figures are estimates only and actual figure's may vary.
  • We recommend all vehicles coming to HPF for tuning run 98 Octane fuel. Please contact us if you have a need to use different fuel.
  • Power figures listed are estimated kilowatts at the flywheel based on results typically obtained by HPF on HPF’s dynos. Typically these are based of a manual vehicle with standard driveline and standard wheels and tyres. Actual power can vary based on each specific vehicle.
  • Modifications such as this package require the vehicle to be in excellent mechanical order.
  • We advise against increasing the power output substantially on high kilometer engines, if your engine has in excessive of 150,000kms please contact us to discuss options.
  • Whilst every attempt is made to ensure prices listed online are correct, they are subject to change at any time.
  • Additional parts may be required in some cases depending on the condition of the vehicle. Cost of these parts and additional labor required may incur additional cost.
